A state law requires most utilities to get 20 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020, with 4 percent of that coming from solar energy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">&quot;It is becoming increasingly important for us to leverage customer-owned solar power facilities as we grow our Solar Rewards program to meet Colorado&#8217;s renewable energy standard,&quot; said Fred Stoffel, vice president of marketing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text\">Xcel Energy will award the winning bidders a 20-year contract to sell the renewable energy credits from the projects to Xcel Energy.
