Use of solar roofing and green roofing will help us decrease the amount of added pollution and the growing strain on our energy system as our population (unfortunately)\u00a0continues to grow.<\/p>\n<p>There is an interesting initiative being proposed that may help us start to change the way things are built going forward: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.denvergreenroof.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Denver Green Roof Initiative<\/a>. Here\u2019s the chart:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Gross Floor Area (Size of Building)<\/td>\n<td>Coverage of Available Roof Space (Size of Green Roof)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>25,000 \u2013 49,999 f2<\/td>\n<td>20%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>50,000 \u2013 99,999 f2<\/td>\n<td>30%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>100,000 \u2013 149,999 f2<\/td>\n<td>40%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>150,000 \u2013 199,999 f2<\/td>\n<td>50%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>200,000 f2 or greater<\/td>\n<td>60%<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>So, if a commercial building is 25,000 sqft (5,000 sqft more than a standard Whole Foods) they would have to pay approximately $125,000 (Green Roofs cost an average of $25 per sqft) for these improvements\u00a0<strong>AT THE TIME OF A NORMAL ROOF REPLACEMENT<\/strong>. Buildings do not have to do these upgrades immediately, only at the time of a normal roof replacement, which is about every 10 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><b>Will this raise rent or increase taxes?<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>This bill will not raise taxes. It would put the cost on the\u00a0Developers and building owners.<\/li>\n<li>This will not raise rent.
